There are probably phd papers on this but I assume it's not just fooling, it's significant digits. If I see "$25" I think 'oh you weren't even sure' -- (edited)

'you're just being lazy about figuring out what to charge and just tossing that number out like it's "about 25 dollars." Because it's not 'precise' like 24.99 is. 24.99 tells me the marketing team put some *thought* into this. I get the confidence that some thought went into this *and* I'm saving money? Let me get my credit card.
