that's tough - you cannot get clean or work on mental health while on the streets. when we were putting up folks in hotels during bad weather, you'd

see almost an immediate change in people who were talking to themselves and incoherent to someone who seemed like they were somewhat okay. having a safe place to be, bed, shower, really changes a lot of that.

that's why at the core of it, giving someone a place to live is kind of nonnegotiable for taking care of other issues. i would never ask someone to get sober while on the street - it could literally kill them.
