My letter to the Editor of the Post.

I have read your explanation for not endorsing a candidate in this election and find your reasoning inconsistent, your actions suspect and your cowardice blatantly apparent.

Let's start with your reasoning. By your own statements you have indicated that even when the policy of the paper was to not endorse a presidential candidate, you broke that policy when the stakes were high enough. And those prior instances pale in comparison to the stakes today. Furthermore, instead of making this policy decision soon after the last election, when it could be viewed as a neutral choice, you have chosen to make the decision one and a half weeks prior to the most consequential election of our lifetimes. That is a choice that completely undermines your objective of staying neutral. The choice and timing of that choice speaks volumes (frankly more than the endorsement would have).

So since the explanation and reasoning fail miserably, the actions fall to us to interpret. Given the threats that Trump has made to take actions against the press and media that don't fall into line with him, the only real explanation is cowardice (or the preference of your multi-billionaire owner to protect his place in the oligarchy that Trump seems intent on building). It's disheartening and pathetic. Your motto is "Democracy Dies in Darkness". I would change that to "Democracy Dies in Silence." I'll be canceling my subscription.
