Preparing our condo budget I asked our manager if any condos in the area have started installing solar panels. It's still not viable for most.

Due to various other structures on commercial rooftops there isn't as much space as you'd think. In our case we're using space for leased cell tower equipment and income we'd lose if we swapped for panels. Considering most of the residents in a high rise are under the same footprint, a few panels wouldn't make a significant dent in the building expenses.

A couple other comments from our agent:
"... well, that was Texas, we're in Virginia...
"I used to have solar salespeople constantly trying to get us to buy, but that has all dried up. The condos in our area all considered it at one point, but the ROI still isn't there."
