I’ve actually worked through this with my BIL who is a contractor and was working on a pitch for affordable energy efficient housing. -- (edited)

I don’t know if what we laid out would actually work because we were very, very drunk, but involved the co-op basically acting as a mini-utility company between the units and the grid and owning the solar plant on the shared roof space.
