You should check out the City of New Orleans. Or the Empire Builder.

Both are great trips if you book a room. I would not advise riding coach on an overnight trip.
The cost of a room will run about the same as a first class plane ticket; the cost of a roomette will run about the same as an economy plus or basic business class flight. But it is a tremendously better experience.
