I'm optimistic in the sense that I have faith in American Humanity still. That there are simply enough people to make the right decision. However...
I'm preparing to be crushingly disappointed.
Honestly, I think we're not going to know who won until Thanksgiving at the earliest. I think there are going to be incidents and uncertainty as to the outcome for a few weeks.
I remember how surreal 2001 felt and now it feels depressingly normal.
