For those of you with actual seasons and like cold / snow / rain, I need recommendations for socks and shoes

My daily shoes are mesh and I absolutely know that's not going to work for end of December in northern (ish?) England.
Similarly, pretty much all my socks are just above ankle height
I guess the parameters are that I way prefer shoes that have some degree of padding as opposed to straight up old school leather formal shoes. After that, I guess not luxury or collectible pricing. I'm gonna be on vacation, function over fashion and I can play the ugly American tourist if needed ;-)

Smart Wool, Darn Tough, REI or other similar wool socks. Merrill has great shoes for all weather. REI is a great place to shop for all of these. -- (edited)

For boots, I just use my work ones (steel toe). Kodiak has hikers too. I've found them warm and comfy. -- (link)

Kinda pricey but I roll with Coppersole socks. I think they are semi-compression and find that helps the elasticity live longer as well. -- (link)
