the problem with meetup is that most groups have hundreds if not thousands of people, so here's an event, oh sorry all booked up already.

I used to enjoy a 'happy hour' yahoogroup and sure sometimes a place we choose got slammed beyond capacity, but it was fun and wide open.
when they moved to meetup, I was never able to go, mostly because I couldn't make a reservation weeks in advance when I didn't know what elopements would book up to a few days before
