...quite possibly their greatest core set of all time.
Foundations is a release that will be the baseline of the standard version of the game for at least 5 years, they've stated.
There is an entry level beginner's box that has everything needed to get them started, including dice and playmat. There is a mid-level product that can give them pre-made packs they can then either add to the collection, or shuffle them up and play right away. And then there is a more advanced product that is akin to the old deckbuilder's toolkit. It's not random, and really pushes on how to start making your own decks for any constructed format.
There are also the usual booster packs for everyone to add these cards to their collection regardless of experience.
Of course, there are also collector boosters for people to become whales and bling out their decks with all the most elite looking variants.
Will this Foundation be enough to bridge the gap between the new players excited about Universes Beyond, the IP that is now going to comprise half of Magic the Gathering's card pool, and what came before? I don't know.
But since it leans on everything they've learned over three decades of card design and development, it will make for one hell of a core set that will be mighty tempting to return to play with myself.
