There was 1 theater in town when I was growing up.

There was only one other theater on the island till I was around 5th grade, and it was on the other side of the island...more than an hour drive away.
The "other" theater opened when 5th grade, and a second theater opened in town around the same time. That one was converted to a multiplex by 8th grade, and another multiplex opened on the south side of the island around the same time.
The "original" theater on the island closed down almost a decade ago. It could compete with the multiplex's. It's still standing there, empty, a lonely reminder of a much different generation.
