ticket wins *and* the Presidential candidate dies of a heart attack.
The presidential candidate died before polls closed on the west coast, and his death was covered up until after polls closed so that the VP candidate could be named as President-elect.
Found the book - the author later became a government waste conspiracists who was popular with the Tea Party
