It’s a new eruption in the same area as recent ones. This was not unexpected, they just wouldn’t know exactly when and where the fissure would form I guess. -- (edited)

One of the previous eruptions closed the original approach road. When we were there in October we could see all of the defensive berms they’d built around the resort for this exact scenario.

We were told this was so heavily monitored they’d have warning. The volcanoes that don’t give warning, nobody lives near.
