Went to the library to renew my card, and was surprised to find that a hold was ready for me. At a branch I'd never visited before.
Consider Phlebas.
I'd forgotten that I had placed a hold a while back (it was a long waitlist), and I just happened to arrive a few days before the hold expired.
And then I got donuts!
