while I'm visiting my parents, I decided to get them something.

My dad won't care but hopefully my mom enjoys it. I got them a map of the world, along with a corkboard and some colored pushpins. Then I mounted it all in their apartment at the assisted living facility.

I don't know if it's from a very brief education as a child or because she's starting to forget things, but when I asked her to find some places on the map, she struggled a lot. At first, she wasn't even sure what city *we were in right now*. But with some prodding, she starts making connections. So I asked her if she'd ever traveled anywhere, and she would say she hadn't, then I'd ask her about places I knew she'd been, and she'd start remembering. I only wish my brother bothered to engage with her like this when I'm not around. It can only help.
