They are assuming that the higher seeded team wins the conference championship games, but not penalizing the losing team. Penn State would likely drop behind Ohio State for example. That would move Notre Dame up to #5. It would be interesting to see what a Georgia loss would do to their ranking.

And if SMU and/or Boise St lose that eliminates some bubble teams to put Clemson and UNLV in.
