This is serious bullshit. I need hip surgery, and I'm getting it done in Arlington VA at one of the best hospitals in the US.

They refuse to do the surgery if I don't identify a caregiver. The caregiver is required to take a pre surgery class with me. They are required to be present the day of my surgery. They are required to stay at my home for four days minimum.
What the fuck bullshit is this? Canadian, European, and other STers, correct me if I'm wrong. If I had hip replacement surgery where you live, I'm guessing I would have the surgery and then go to a surgical recovery facility, where medical professionals would take care of me.
According to the official booklet for my surgery, if I do not have someon who is dedicated to providing care for me for 4 days minimum, my only alternative is to hire home healthcare workers out of pocket. They cannot stay overnight. Based on my research, they will put a toilet chair next to my bed before they go home.
What the actual everloving fuck? This is LITERALLY one of the best hospitals in the US.

I'm sorry, that sucks. Here you would just stay at the hospital. They would probably move you to a rehab floor after the actual surgery. -- nm*

Wow. I had a total knee replacement, and all I needed was a ride home.

I'm sure you've been asked but, your health insurance doesn't cover home health care? I have no clue if mine does. I would guess some do. -- nm
