You can never trust a gambler to play his best game. If playing poorly gets him more than playing well, he'll play poorly.

A player using performance enhancers will always put forward his best.
That's why gambling is worse, especially from a coach. If losing the game pays more, he holds the team back by adjusting the lineup or pulling a pitcher doing well.
You can't EVER trust a gambler to give you his A game. Ever.
