I also want to salute John McCain for some of the things that he did in the campaign.

yeah, I didn't like some of the stuff that came out during the campaign, but evidently McCain put a lid on things much worse
Newsweek is going to be releasing a behind the scenes report and according to some excerpts, McCain personally said that Michelle Obama was off limits; he didn't want ads portraying Obama as soft on crime as he wanted no Willie Horton ads; he vetoed a proposed attack ad that showed Obama dancing with Ellen Degeneres, etc.
It could have been a lot nastier than it was if it wasn't for the character of John McCain. And on some of the stuff, William Ayers and socialism, for example, I could see his heart wasn't really into it.
Although it disturbed me to see McCain cozy up to part of the "base" the past couple years, I knew why he had to do that. I want to welcome the true Maverick back to the US Senate.

Also from that Newsweek article, if Palin actually did bring up the Ayers stuff without permission from McCain or the campaign...

I think it goes to show that you have to run as who you are. You can't fake it. If he truly was a man of character he needed to run like one.

It sounds like a very divided campaign in this regard. He had some folks who wanted to go full-on Satanic. -- nm
