it's also more internally consisent, because, in my view, it is intrinsicially backwards-looking.

whereas the left fringe is so forward-looking, nobody can agree on what it looks like, so while providing a great diversity of opinion, much fewer ideological commonalities to group around.
In short: Everyone can agree on where we've been, but no two people share the exact same idea of where we should be going.
