i've been hit three times (4-08, 3-09 and 4-09). the first time started w/ a small charge ($1.00) and them escalated to big bucks (i think at about $3000 the bank BoA shut it down). at that time i was only monitoring my account online about once a week. after that i learned to check it daily.
the next 2 times the bank caught it instantly and shut my account down. they don't instantly cover the overdraft fees that occur when they have shut the account down and you still haven't realized it. i'm someone who rarely uses cash anymore. the last time it happened the bank rep i talked to said that they shut it down b/c the same ip in eastern europe had hit a large group of idividuals at the same time.
