I prefer a condo to a hotel, and for two decades I have rented with utter satisfaction at Hale Kamaole, across the street from one of the nicest beaches on Maui. The family-friendly complex includes two pools, two four-grill charcoal barbecue areas, tennis courts and a large lawn. Units include Internet, TV/DVD player, well-equipped kitchens, and some have washer-dryers. Nightly rates from $135 to $310, plus 11.4 percent tax, varying by unit size and season, and a one-time cleaning fee of about $80 to $130. (halekamaole.net or 800-367-2970).
