I hated the first half and was bored out of my skull trying not to fall asleep. I didn't like the documentary hybrid style of the film, and in particular I thought the mixing of the documentary point of view with the omniscient point of view was clunky and off-putting. I realize there was a lot to set up, but I thought that there was just so much exposition to get through (which was the reason for the documentary style to begin with) that the first act was way too long and dry, and then even with all that there were plenty of things unexplained.
After the human and the prawn teamed up and it became The Defiant Ones with aliens I enjoyed it quite a bit. That half was a fun action movie that I enjoyed quite a bit.
