Unsettling metro story from this weekend

I was on metro Saturday night (the Red Line which is a horrible line anyways), and this was the earliest we were making it out to DC in months. It was roughly 10:15pm. So we are all pretty drunk sitting on a train, and all of a sudden the train starts smoking (note it was an older car in the middle of the train) and it smells really bad. So at the next stop we freak out and run to a different car. As we are debating hitting the talk button to the operator, a metro employee walks by.

"Sir, that metro train (points) is smoking!"

Reply: "I know they all are"

The doors chime "Doors Closing" and we continue on. I was like WTF?
