In response to "don't need the thread. Really you didn't even have to go there. You don't need to solve her work problem. -- nm" by loosilu

Here was the response I just sent.

Ms. [...],

Thank you for your communication.
As you guessed, it is not my intent to be disrespectful to your daughter, but to try to gauge whether she is a candidate to be moved back to my section of classes. The decision to move students was made by my superiors, and I have been instructed by them to move back to the morning section only those who have no other choice. To me, that means those who have work schedules for Monday and Wednesday nights. It was not clear to me from her emails that it was the case permanently on those particular nights, so I asked for clarification. I'm afraid that professors, especially those of us in the sciences, tend to be more direct than is common.
I hope you'll trust that I am doing what I think is in the best interest of your daughter and all of my students. She and I will discuss her situation tomorrow (Wednesday) in person.
If you have any more questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to write me again.

Dr. [nubby]

P.S. I've included [...], chair of the department, on this email.

Yeah, more than I should have.
