Question for the ST parents - the car seats that lock into the base - do you need one of those bases in order to secure the baby in the car?

That probably makes no sense. :)
If I have the baby in the car seat, am I able to secure him without having a base to lock the seat into, or are those bases necessary?
TIA

You mean the clip in clip out ones? Yes, the base is essential.

The "base" secures with the lap part of the belt, and usually the "carrier" part is secured by the arm/shoulder part of the seat belt. -- nm

Yep...the base is buckled in and never leaves the car. You unhook the seat from the base to take baby out of the car. -- nm

I believe the bases are necessary, though you can get seats that don't require the base.
