If only the GOP base would listen to that advice. Frank was in a lose/lose situation.

No answer he gave would have accomplished anything.
If he gave a thoughtful answer, it'd please the supporters in the crowd, be ignored by the detractors, and get zero news coverage, thereby changing zero opinions.
If he gives a snarky answer, his supporters love him for it, his detractors continue to hate him, but the news picks it up.
I think he loses less in the second scenario because there's the chance that people will see the Hitler lady and realize the opposition is full of hot air.
