It's the non-indie parts that are confusing me.

The aforementioned Daft ones, for example. The mixture of indie with not seems to be an odd mish-mosh, like people with indie cred made a great indie list (I presume, but will defer to you whether or not that statement is correct) and then threw in random mainstream songs they'd heard of.
I'm sure it's more than that, but the rhyme and reason are missing for me.
