There was a group who did that in Oregon -- the "Oregon Cephalopod Alliance" or something like that.

They started circulating petitions to ban clothing of mixed fibers, eating of shellfish, sowing of multiple seeds in the same field, etc. And they also tried to get an Oregon legislator to introduce a bill providing the death penalty to children who disobeyed their parents.
