LaRussa said something to the effect of "It's pretty obvious he was tipping his pitches."

7 in a row is Smoltz pitching well, but pitching against a crappy Padres lineup is a big factor.

Look at it objectively, isn't it more likely he strikes out 7 Padres, rather than 7 Phillies (or Dodgers or whoever)?

Like I said, he'd likely strike out 13 against the Mets.
