everyone said that the democrats were going to war after '04 which I don't think happened.

I do think the GOP is headed for some sort of conflict. They've managed to cobble together a coalition of religious, alleged fiscal and social conservatives which, this time, drove the bus over the cliff. It's precisely the pandering to these base groups that caused the McCain campaign to make some decisions that I think killed their chances.

Maybe, in the future, if they run a campaign for the base, in particular this base, it'll work but it failed this time.

And the mentions in that article about the death of the Moderate Wing of the GOP is not optimistic enough. It's been dead since Clinton won and the Right went batshit. They haven't lost control of the party since.
