The electorate moved on them...they can just as easily move back.

What I've noticed is that the last two President's now have been a reaction to the previous.
Bush got in because he was seen as moral and because Clinton was a dirty whore. Obama got in because he's cerebral, thoughtful and calm and not impulsive and doesn't make decisions based on instincts.
The electorate, I think, has different criteria for electing people to the position of President based on events.
