if you remember 2004, there was a debate amongst the Democrats after the loss and which direction to go - the more vocal non-centrist group actually won a lot of the debates, Howard Dean as chairman was a notable win

its who stays around after the last election and agitates for change that frames the debates for the next election

as I said yesterday, the crazies don't have control of the party yet, but the intelligentsia of the GOP and the moderates are going to have to stand up and fight
