Was an amazing change really. He'd just chalked up the slowing down to "getting older." It was like he was 10+ years younger afterwards.

Sounds like your dad is lucky they caught it thourgh tests - mine had a heart attack and that's how they found the problem. Still, given the results it was a good thing overall. Hope it works out well for your dad too.
