There is a very scientific and innovation-based company I recently heard about that I really want to apply to but I don't know how to approach it.

This company is at the forefront of some great plastic technologies. For the first time, I want to work for someone not for the money or prestige but because I very much believe in the goodness of their cause.
However, they are based in Germany (but has a USA station in Andover), isn't that big (not tiny either), and I imagine that even if hiring they would want engineers or scientists.
Should I even attempt to write a cold approach cover letter? How can I play up my business background to this innovations company?
TIA everyone
