Something off the beaten path is the Masonic Temple in Alexandria.

They do tours. I didn't know much about Masons when I went and part of the tour was pretty cheesy (the do a dramatic presentation of a replica of the Ark of the Covenant, complete with music, lights, pulled curtains). But there was some interesting historical stuff. I didn't know that many US presidents were Masons as well as many of the founding fathers. If you have time I'd recommend it.
