Its not something you toss a backpack and sleeping bag in the car and go, you not only have to prep for survival in a hostile environment but do it in

a thematic costume. Up here people form groups to plan, build, decorate and theatricate.

what I didn't know, you have to wear shoes and socks, lots of socks, because the sand, while powery fine is quite abrasive and many folks get crippling blisters from walking barefoot or even in sandles.
