Some hypnotist started trying to be a regular at the bar we always go to, and my friends convinced me to let him try.

He failed. Miserably.
He stopped trying to be a regular at that bar when he tried to hypnotize a girl and his boyfriend took exception to his hand placement and relaxation techniques, and hood-whipped him out of the bar. He showed up a couple more times with gargantuan black eyes, and then sort of disappeared.
