He is the coach. That's his relationship to the kids. His duty as coach means he doesn't get to have a separate personal relationship with the kids

WHILE they are students.
EVERYTHING he does with those students is as an agent of the school.
Once the kids graduate, if he wants to take them to church, an ice cream social, bowling, across state lines... That's fine.
While they are in school, his activities should relate to school, follow the rules, and ALWAYS with parental consent.
Anything less and he is not fulfilling his duty as a school employee.
