Because the exit polling said that 60-68% of people who voted found her dangerously unqualified to lead the country. Among undecided voters, 40% said that her presence on the ticket was a factor in the way they voted. You can do the math and figure out just how many votes Palin's presence on the ticket cost McCain. Please dear God please put her at the top of the ticket in 2012.

(There's a really funny interview right now where a woman at the Heritage Foundation is about to implode over what has happened with Palin.)
