Does an I-Pod Touch possibly qualify as a PDA replacement?

My brother broke his PDA screen a few months ago, and I was thinking on buying an I-Touch for Christmas to replace it, since he doesn't have a portable mp3 player either.

He mostly used it as a personal organizer and to keep his thousands of contacts readily available (he is a journalist).
