Cass shows up to Bobby's hospital room. He can't heal Bobby, but he's got a new plan: find God, who's apparently walking the Earth. Dean's necklace this whole time has been a "God beacon" that can help find Him. So off goes Cass.
Bobby's phone rings, and it's Rufus who's in Colorado and a whole town is under siege by demons. The boys show up and run into Ellen, whom Rufus also called. Jo and Rufus have been taken by the demons. She takes them to the hideout of the normal people, and Sam and Ellen go off to rescue the others. Sam is captured. Sam and Dean independently figure out that there aren't any demons at all: War (a horseman) has come to town to wreak havoc by making people hallucinate that the others are demons. The boys figure out who War is, find his weak spot (a ring), and resolve the situation. War gets away and Ellen and Jo are reunited.
Sam has a couple of episodes and realizes he's hurting more than he's helping, so he and Dean mutually decide to split up.
