Nah, in an office environment it's very can-of-worms to make a habit of being confrontational like that.

Management starts thinking of you as a person who disrupts the work environment if you behave confrontationally too often. That's just how it is. I think he handled his concern well, considering. Also, let's remember: at least he didn't run and tell management first thing.
