I had an aha moment, actually, with the smoking/drinking thing, that the two can inform each other.

I.e. when I was drinking Tuesday night, I was trying to drink without getting drunk or really even close. And as I started my third beer, I felt my desire for a smoke jump from like a 2 to a 7. At which point I said, "wooooah, Nelly" and made it my last beer. I think that could be a mutually beneficial early detection system.
