Indeed. My mom got the kids, my dad ended up paying some child support, and that situation went rather well.

As well as it could go, at least, with all the usual protestations and crap involved.
It was when my stepdad, and his exes, entered the picture that my family ended up getting dragged through the wringer of family court. Painful crap.
