Linking having kids with same-sex marriage is disingenuous at best

not all gay couples will choose to have kids, and many traditional couples don't want kids themselves. child raising and/or adoption is but one of the many issues surrounding the same-sex marriage debate. First and foremost, from all my understanding, is to have their relationship formally recognized for the myriad of purposes that straight people take for granted.

However, leaving aside the debate as to whether being raised by a dad and a mom or by two parents makes any difference (and if so, that scourge of single parents out there must be a problem that's 50x worse and yet we do nothing about that) - being married or not isn't going to stop gay people from having kids. And not having kids isn't going to stop gay people from wanting to be with each other. Which brings me back to the point of why we should deny them their recognition.
