Frost/Nixon spoiler comment

My mom kept asking me why the Kevin Bacon character loved Nixon so much, and why he felt so emotionally defensive about him. I think she suspected something homoerotic. I actually didn't know what to tell her, except maybe that he mentions that he resents the anti-war movement and journalists for criticizing Nixon so much, and hates to see him fall so far. ??

But yeah, I ended up finding that odd. Great, great movie, though.
