Course, if you're going to go down the road of taxing this stuff....actually do it to eliminate multiple problems.

a nickel tax here doesn't stop obesity or anything associated with the worsened health standards so for the low price of a nickle, you get worse health and only a modest revenue gain.
Hike the taxes to the point they can fund programs devoted to health issues linked to the various soda problems, you'll both cut down on the users and ultimately the resultant negatives or you'll fund the health measures fully on the backs of those who can't quit.
