This happens in soccer too. Did you ever hear the song "the fields of Athenry"? Well, for generations it was sung at Irish internationals by the fans.

Then Celtic football club in Scotland started using it, given their Irish links.
Then, in the last 10 years, Liverpool, an English football club, well their fans co-opted it into their setlist.
