what SLR really means is 1) it is not point and shoot (for the most part) and 2) lenses are sold separately and are expensive

ISO is film speed. the faster the speed, the more quickly you can capture moving objects. For instance rain drops or athletes running down a field.
Personally, I recommend Canon.
